Service Company. We’re out doing some

possible second round of army worms.

It’s been about 30 days since our last

outbreak and what we’re seeing right now

are a few worms crawling across people’s

turf, but what we’re seeing is a lot of eggs.

They like to lay their eggs on the underside of leaves or bird baths. Things like that so keep an

eye out for them. You usually see them in the cool of the morning, and during the heat of the day they usually burrow down into the turf

and then they come back out in the cool

of the evening again. When they lay their eggs they can lay up to a thousand eggs at one time so they can repopulate fairly quickly. A self-test you can do if you’re not sure if you have them or not or if you’re not seeing them is take a bucket of soapy water and pour it in an area and they should come to the surface. It’ll kind of drown them out and that’ll give you an indication whether you have them or not. One thing that’s a real concern right now is it it’s been several weeks since we’ve had any significant rain

and a lot of what people are contributing to the heat or lack of rain is really army worm damage.

So if you have an irrigation system and you’re seeing dry patches or patchy areas, there’s a good chance you do have army worms. If you don’t have an irrigation system it might be a little tougher to tell, but just do an inspection, keep an eye on it. You can get a general insecticide in any of the big box stores and follow the label.
