Hey guys, Randy with LBR the outdoor
service company.  I’m here in front of this
cedar tree that we have with this customer’s house, and I want to talk to you guys about
bagworms. These will attach themselves to
Arborvitae, deciduous trees, cedars, pines and pretty much anything that’s green year-round.
I actually had them attached to a customer’s Japanese Maple last year, and pretty much devoured every leaf on that tree. What you see on these are actually egg sacs from the moth, the bagworm moth. What they do is they’ll attach themselves to the the limbs, trunks of the trees or the leaves of the trees. This is the kind of damage that they will actually do. See this is stripped of all the needles on this branch right here. They will completely devour a tree in no time. The best practice is to get a general insecticide. You can pick it up at Lowe’s or Home Depot or any big box store. Make sure it’s labeled to kill bag worms, but Jenny General Insecticide, Ortho, Bayer makes a product as well. Pick it up, apply it according to the label or give us a shot we’d be happy to help out. I just wanted to bring this to everybody’s attention to know that these are out and about now. And pay attention to them in your landscape. Have a good one.
